Welsh Need to Learn Better Falconry Skills

Newcastle Falcons 38 – 7 London Welsh

Falcons director of rugby Dean Richards said his side’s attacking intent is here to stay as wing wizard Sinoti Sinoti and Co breezed to a bonus point victory over London Welsh and ending a four game losing streak.

Tries from Sinoti, Rob Vickers, Mike Blair and Will Welsh helped Newcastle secure the bonus point before half – time. Ally Hogg and Tom Catterick also joined in on the fun after the interval while Nick Scott did finish off a stylish move for Welsh before half – time but they couldn’t withstand the pressure from the North East.

Richards has insisted on encouraging his team to continue this attitude of attacking rugby saying “The boys have a licence to play and we’re not going to come down hard on them if they make a few mistakes here and there because they are showing a lot of ambition, which is what we want them to do.”

The director of rugby also praised his coaching staff “With Dave (Walder) and Wellsy (John Wells), coupled with some of the other boys like Micky Ward, I think we’ve got a really strong coaching team and the boys appreciate that” added Richards.

In a very breezy Kingston Park it took a while for the Falcons to find their gusto this was until Sinoti bulldozed his way past the Exiles defense for a big gain and after a barrage of pick-and-goes itches away from the try line.

The ball was called back for a five metre scrum for Newcastle with the ball going left the mini tornado Sinoti had a simple score which was his seventh of the season on 14 minutes.

From this moment the first half was all Newcastle as Vickers scored the second for the hosts four minutes later as the prop finished off a rolling maul and with Tom Catterick adding the extras the score was 12 – 0.

Then in a blink of an eye Falcons scored again on 21 minutes and it was the New Zealand winger Sinoti who broke the gain line again and did the hard work before offloading to Mark Wilson whose quick hands set up Blair.

However, Welsh pulled off an eye – catching try of their own on 24 minutes as the ball went wide to Will Robinson, who chipped in a deft kick which was collected by Scott to reduce the score to 19 – 7.

The home side secured the bonus point after 32 minutes as another rolling maul was grounded by Welsh and with Catterick missing the conversion.

Half – Time – Newcastle Falcons 24 – 7 London Welsh

The second half was more of a scrappier occasion and there was injury news for Welsh as Piri Weepu ankle got trapped in a Juan Pablo Socino tackle. The former World Cup All Black soldiered on but it was a weakness the Falcons could exploit.

Newcastle added another try to the tally on 55 minutes as the ball went wide to Hogg and the number 8 spirited to the try line and with Catterick adding the conversion to increase the score to 31 – 7.

With two minutes left, there was time for one more score as Catterick seized on a Exlies mistake to nip round the fringes to make it a half dozen of tries and when the fly half added the extras it increased his tally to 13 points.
