Gloucester Rugby 22 – 25 Exeter Chiefs
Exeter went home with a narrow win against West Country
rivals Gloucester in the Friday night game.
The Cherry and
Whites took advantage of Chiefs winger Ian Whitten being in the sin bin as
Jonny May chipped the ball and score the first try of the game and the second
came from Dan Murphy who finished a driving maul from a lineout on Exeters 5
metre line.
The visitors replied
from four penalties from the boot of inform fly – half Gareth Steenson, who
brought the game level, however, before half time Ben White got Exeter their
first try of the evening and gave the Chiefs the lead.
After the break long
range specialist Henry Slade extended the away sides lead with two monster
penalties. After Matt Kvesic was yellow carded Gooucester fought back and with
15 minutes to go they out Exeter’s 13 point lead to shreds.
Sione Kalamafoni
surged over and with James Hook’s conversion and penalty shorted the Chiefs
lead to just three points, but Rob Baxters men went home with the win.

Sale Sharks 46 – 8 London Welsh
A hat – trick from Tom Arscott made sure London Welsh went
home with another massive defeat.
Arscott got his and Sale’s first try of the day within three
minutes, then prop Vadim Cobilas bundled
over the line with
Danny Cipriani conversion and penalty made sure the Sharks went 12 – 3 up at
half time.
In the second half
Welsh got back into the game as centre Nic Reynolds scored in the corner and it
looked like they learned from the positives of last weeks hammering at Bath.
However, with 15
minutes to go Welsh
completely collapsed as a basic training ground move opened them up
with winger Arscott
getting his second try of the game.
Sale smelt blood and the Sharks attacked and secured the
bonus point try as Arscott set up his fellow
winger Tom Brady to
score and after the poor restart, lock Michael Paterson sliced his way past
Welsh’s sloppy and poor defending and after a few more phases Arscott got this
hat – trick.
In the final minute replacement second row Andrei Ostrikov
ran past the defence and set up fullback
Luke McLean to
score.
At least London Welsh didn’t concede 50 points!

Harlequins 26 – 23 Wasps
Harlequins made sure last week's defeat to Saracens didn’t
happen again as they beat a Wasps side,
hoping to improve on
their win against Northampton.
Wasps started the brightest with a try from Guy Thompson but
was cancelled out by three penalty kicks
from Ben Botica.
After the break Danny Care’s chip into the Wasps try area, but winger Christan
Wade fumbled the ball and flanker Chris Robshaw scored to give Quins the lead.
More confusion in the Wasps defence as Botica chipped the
ball and as he was able to collect Kearnan
Myall tripped the
fly – half over and the sent Myall to the sin bin and awarded the penalty try
to the home side.
After Danny Care’s clever drop goal extended the lead
further for Quins but Wasps hit back as Joe
Simpson set up Tom Varndell.
The visitors cut the lead shorter with four minutes to go Thomas Young, son of
head coach Dai, went over from a driving maul but sadly it wasn’t enough.

London Irish 32 –
26 Saracens
Saracens needed the
80th minute to stop a spirited London Irish with Alex Lewington scoring a hat
trick to claim a well deserved victory.
The visitors looked
to continue from last weeks hammering they gave Harlequins as Tim Streather
scored within 48 seconds, but Irish hit back with centre Shane Geraghty
continuing his good form to set up Blair Cowan to score their first try of the
game.
Scrum – half Richard
Wigglesworth extended Saracens lead to 20 – 7. Yet again Irish weren’t giving
up as Chris Noakes crossfield kick found Lewington who side stepped and scored
his first try of the game.
Lewington did it
again as the winger collected scrum – half Scott Steele’s well placed grubber
kick to score his second try in four minutes.
Even though Owen
Farrells penalty extended Saracens lead, however Irish and Lewington fought
back as Steele assisted again as the 23 year old winger out paced three Sarries
defenders to finish off his hat trick as Irish led for the first time of the
game.
The Exiles had a
three point lead going into the final minute and after they ignored going for
the penalty and the draw Saracens went for the lineout and from the driving
maul Billy Vunipola grounded the ball and his try secured the win for the visitors.
